MEXICO CITY (AP) — The U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned three Mexican citizens Wednesday for alleged involvement in the production and trafficking of the powerful synthetic opioid fentanyl. It was the second round of sanctions in as many months against leading fentanyl traffickers from the Sinaloa drug cartel. The three men sanctioned all worked in the violent border city of Tijuana. They include one man known as “The Anthrax Monkey,” whose decades-long career includes breaking out of prison. The three allegedly moved large amounts of synthetic opioid fentanyl into the United States. The sanctions block any assets the targets may have in the United States and prohibit U.S. citizens from having any dealings with them. The Treasury Department said two of the men, Alfonso Arzate Garcia and his brother, Rene Arzate Garcia, acted as “plaza bosses” for the Sinaloa Cartel in Tijuana. They remain at large. The other is Rafael Guadalupe Felix Nuñez, “El Changuito Antrax,” or “T...Toast, Array Technologies rise; Upstart Holdings, Roblox fall, Wednesday, 8/9/2023

What to know about Apple’s iOS 17 change

NEW YORK (AP) — Hanging up that phone call? The location of Apple’s red end-call button is set to slightly move with upcoming iOS 17 updates to the phone app, so be wary of your thumb’s muscle memory. As iPhone users know, the “End” button currently sits prominently away from other call options, in a center position towards the bottom of the screen. But with iOS 17, which officially launches this fall, the red icon will move the right — and other features will move down to join it.While a iOS 17 preview guide from Apple showed this new setup in June, renewed attention has increased as some explore beta versions of the software upgrade. Images from iOS 17 beta versions shared by multiple news outlets this week show the small — but potentially frustrating — change. Beyond the end button, there are additional changes to the placement of other call features seen on past iOS versions. The “Mute” and “Speaker” buttons, for example, have swapped — as have the “FaceTime” and “Key...Fire breaks out at north Syria camp housing families linked to Islamic State group fighters

She added that a container used by the center was burnt as well.Hanan said the cause of the fire that broke out in the early afternoon Wednesday was still unkno...Florida Gov. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday suspended the top prosecutor in Orlando, wielding his executive again power over local government in taking on a contentious issue in the 2024 presidential race. It’s the second time DeSantis, a Republican, has removed a Democratic state attorney and follows an investigation that began when a teenager was charged with fatally shooting a television reporter and a 9-year-old girl.“It is my duty as Governor to ensure that the laws enacted by our duly elected Legislature are followed,” DeSantis said during a news conference in Tallahassee announcing the suspension of State Attorney Monique Worrell of the 9th Judicial Circuit, which serves Orange and Osceola counties.Worrell vowed to seek reelection next year and said her removal was political and not about her performance. DENVER (KDVR) -- Colorado outperforms most states in terms of its children. Financial advisor WalletHub compared children's socio-economic welfare, health and education in 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Researchers used 26 metrics, ranging from the share of children in poverty or foster care, the share in single parent homes, infant mortality and food security rates and education rates. Each metric had its own weight, the totals of which were compiled into final scores. Alleged high-profile sexual predator arrested in Jeffco Colorado had a relatively low score, 38th out of the 50 states and the District of Columbia - in spite of a relatively poor showing for education. Colorado ranks as one of the best states for children's socio-economic welfare, with the 47th lowest score. This is partially a result of its family formation. Only Utah, Idaho and Wyoming have smaller shares of children in single-parent families, a metric that has a strong correlation to children's o...Latest news
