Viewers reached out to the FOX31 Problem Solvers about a washed-out part of U.S. 285.Driving into Morrison from the mountains on U.S. 285 northbound, motorists were greeted by a lane closure and cones after storm damage revealed itself overnight. “It looks like falling off of the earth right there,” Tammy a visitor from Pennsylvania said. “Is that normal for Colorado?”Colorado Department of Transportation said rain is to blame for the now missing part of the highway. Hit-and-run driver crashes into home, forces evacuations “Runoff after several days of heavy rain caused that washout into the embankment,” CDOT’s Presley Fowler said. “It's steep. It's going to be quite a process to be able to get machinery in there and crews in there.”Fowler tells FOX31 the embankment, which is 40-45 degrees steep, calls for cones and berms as a temporary fix. However, CDOT is working on a bigger solut...Massive house fire destroys home in Hull

Crews remained on scene in Hull Monday night after a fire spread quickly, destroying a home on Q Street.SKY7-HD was over the area around 6:15 p.m. where smoke could be seen billowing over surrounding neighborhoods. Hours later, around 9 p.m., crews were still pouring water on the home while monitoring for hot spots. “You could see it traveling through the house,” neighbor Janet Scribner said of moments Monday afternoon. “The windows down in the basement one after another started to light up with fire and then it all blew out at the end of the house.”Area residents called 911 just after 5:30 p.m.Firefighters then rushed to the home. “We showed up with five guys,” said Hull Fire Department Chief Chris Russo. “This is a lot of work for five guys on duty to maintain this.”Firefighters from nearby communities were called in to help as flames and black smoke filled the neighborhood around the burning home. Russo said the owners of the home were outside when the fire st...7 Investigates: Protect Your Pet

Like humans, dogs should be buckled up when riding in a car. But, 7 Investigates found some products designed for pet protection may actually do more harm than good. A frightening scene as a dog jumps from a moving car onto a busy highway in California, dodging a tractor trailer. The dog survived. But the video shows how important it is to restrain your pet in the car. “Those events are fully preventable,” Lindsey Wolko, a pet safety researcher and advocate, said.Wolko founded the Center for Pet Safety after surviving a car crash with her dog Maggie. She learned pet safety products aren’t regulated- and there’s no government oversight for things like carriers, harnesses, and seats.“In the eyes of the government, pets are considered no different than a piece of luggage. They’re property,” Wolko said. The non-profit tests products designed to keep dogs safe in moving cars. &...Shohei Ohtani blasts 456-foot homer, reaches base 5 times and earns win as Angels beat Orioles, 9-5

The Orioles were in a much different place the only other time they faced Shohei Ohtani. It was Aug. 25, 2021, and the Orioles, in the midst of a 110-loss season, had lost 19 straight games — the most by an MLB team since 2005. They were facing Ohtani, the two-way wonder in the midst of his American League Most Valuable Player campaign, and it seemed inevitable that their streak would reach 20.Baltimore is now a near-180 from that team. Entering the week with the second-best record in the major leagues, the organization is on the other side of the rebuild that caused those dark days in 2021 and before. But, ironically, these Orioles couldn’t do what those Orioles somehow did — complete a comeback against the Angels’ bullpen after Ohtani exited the game. Ohtani the pitcher tossed seven innings for the win, while Ohtani the hitter was a double away from his second cycle and blasted a three-run home run off Grayson Rodriguez to hand the Orioles a 9-5 loss.“M...As Chicago Cubs reliever Brad Boxberger goes on the IL, a largely unproven bullpen continues to be tested

The Chicago Cubs bullpen the last two years was built around proven veterans for high-leverage, late-inning spots.Craig Kimbrel and David Robertson allowed manager David Ross to work in reverse when deploying his relievers in 2021 and 2022 — at least in the first half of both seasons until the Cubs traded away their top relievers. They haven’t been able to utilize the bullpen in the same way to start this season. Michael Fulmer and Brad Boxberger haven’t been the shutdown arms Ross can reliably count on in key spots. And now Boxberger is sidelined, landing on the 15-day injured list Monday with a right forearm strain. Boxberger will rest his arm for a couple of days, and if it isn’t feeling better, he will head to Chicago for further examination. The seriousness of Boxberger’s injury won’t be known until later this week, though forearm strains can lead to Tommy John surgery.“He’s had such a long, good career, pitching with seventh-innin...Red Sox notebook: Farewell, Ryan Brasier

Late Sunday night, the Red Sox quietly designated Ryan Brasier for assignment. It’s a move many fans were eager to celebrate, but on Monday afternoon, manager Alex Cora took time to issue a reminder of how much Brasier contributed to the team’s last two postseason runs.“I know a lot of people are crushing him and all that, a lot of people wanted to get rid of this guy,” the manager said, “We stayed with him all the way to the end. It just didn’t work out, but the kid is Class A… He didn’t work out, but ‘Brase’ is really good. He’s really good. I know he struggled the last few years. He got hit hard, but every day, he showed up to work and tried to get better, and I’m very proud of him… A lot of people have been hard on him, very hard. And it hasn’t been easy.”Cora also recalled his first impressions of the reliever, who joined the Red Sox on a minor league deal in 2018 after not pitching in the ...Celtics’ belief in Joe Mazzulla continues in advancing to Eastern Conference Finals

Joe Mazzulla has been ridiculed for his timeout usage – or lack thereof – this season, but the Celtics coach picked an important moment to call one in Sunday’s Game 7 win over the Sixers. The Celtics were trailing early in the second quarter, their offense wasn’t flowing yet and they were getting irritated by a series of unfriendly whistles. A questionable foul call on Derrick White, who barely made contact on an exaggerating James Harden, set Mazzulla off. He stormed to midcourt arguing the call. He called a timeout, then brought the intensity to the huddle. There was still 10:09 remaining in the second quarter, but it seemed to be a pivotal point.“I think in a game like that … the guys are so focused on playing hard because they want to win, that you lose sight of how the reality is sometimes,” Mazzulla said. “Our guys have such the right intentions. So just building an awareness of, ‘Hey, here’s how the game is going. We have to shift it. We have to shift the momentum, we have to ...Latest news
