MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Joshua Dobbs has bounced around the NFL like the quintessential backup quarterback, lending an attractive combination of athleticism, experience and intelligence to seven teams in seven years even if none of them have committed to him as a long-term starter.Perhaps his career is about to really take off. His nickname is the “passtronaut,” after all.Just five days after Minnesota acquired him from Arizona in an emergency trade following the season-ending injury for Kirk Cousins, Dobbs rescued the Vikings in Atlanta for their fourth consecutive victory. “I want to say surprising, but then again it’s not really surprising once you get to know him,” Vikings running back Alexander Mattison said. “The time he puts in to be prepared, it definitely makes sense.”Dobbs had quite the week, beating his hometown team with a made-for-TV rally in his Vikings debut and drawing praise that transcended the football world into, well, outer space. U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration says Israel will allow a four-hour humanitarian pause each day in combat operations in northern Gaza to allow civilians to flee to the south, starting on Thursday.Biden also told reporters he had asked the Israelis for a “pause longer than three days” during negotiations over the release of some hostages held by Hamas, although he ruled out the chances of a general cease-fire.In Europe, French President Emmanuel Macron has opened a Gaza aid conference with an appeal for Israel to protect civilians, saying that “all lives have equal worth” and that fighting terrorism “can never be carried out without rules.” The war, now in its second month, was triggered by the Oct. 7 Hamas attack in southern Israel. The number of Palestinians killed in the war has risen to over 10,800, including more than 4,400 children, the Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza said. NEW YORK (AP) — Pro-Palestinian demonstrators occupied the lobby of The New York Times on Thursday, accusing the media of betraying a bias toward Israel in its coverage of the Israel-Hamas war and demanding an immediate cease-fire in Gaza.Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the publication’s Manhattan headquarters. After two World War I-era munitions were found this spring in Fort Totten Park, in Northeast, D.C., the National Park Service said Thursday there might be more hiding there.Investigators have determined it’s “possible” there are additional munitions in the area, but a news release from NPS didn’t offer details as to how that conclusion was reached. An area of the park remains closed and fenced, and cement barriers and “no trespassing” signs will stay put while the NPS and U.S. Army investigate two metal canisters that were discovered there in April. One of the munitions found was a 75-mm projectile, approximately 3 inches in diameter and 11 inches long. The other was a “Livens” projectile, about 6 inches in diameter and 19 inches long.A Livens Projector was a simple, mortar-like weapon that could throw large drums filled with toxic or flammable chemicals.
