California state parks offering free admission to veterans and military members on Memorial Day

California state parks are waiving their admission fees for veterans and members of the military on Monday, May 29 – a celebration of Memorial Day in 130 parks throughout the state.“State Parks invites these brave people and their families to enjoy the beauty, peace, and rich history of their public lands,” said California State Parks Director Armando Quintero in a statement. “Thank you for sacrificing so much for your nation, for your families, and for our freedom.”Free admission will be offered to both active duty and reserve military personnel, as long as they provide a valid military ID and proof of discharge (other than dishonorable or bad conduct).The full list of participating parks is available at the California Department of Parks and Recreation website.Motorcyclist dies after late-night crash on Hwy 4 in Pittsburg

(KRON) -- One motorcyclist died after a two-vehicle crash Saturday night on Highway 4 in Pittsburg, California Highway Patrol (CHP) announced on social media. The crash happened around 11:15 p.m. on the eastbound lanes west of Railroad Avenue. State Farm no longer offering home insurance in California Preliminary investigation revealed a Harley-Davidson motorcycle crashed into the rear of a Kia Optima, according to CHP. The collision caused the motorcyclist to fly off the Harley-Davidson.The motorcyclist died at the scene. They were not identified. FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Emiliano Grillo made a 5-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole at Colonial to get his first PGA Tour victory in more than 7 1/2 years, after blowing a two-stroke lead with a double-bogey on the 72nd hole Sunday. Grillo curled in the winning putt at the 186-yard 16th hole, the same hole where he had taken the solo lead before needing a playoff. Grillo and Adam Schenk, who both finished at 8-under 272, had two-putt pars from 26 feet at No. 18 to start the playoff.It was the second PGA Tour win for Grillo, the 30-year-old from Argentina whose only other win was at the Frys.com Open in Napa in October 2015. DENVER (KDVR) -- A woman was rescued after falling into swift-moving rapids while whitewater rafting on the Royal Gorge part of the Arkansas River on Saturday. The woman was not injured and brought to safety, but the experience was quite scary to witness. Another rafter who pulled the woman out of the water recorded the rescue on his GoPro. “I was pretty scared for her because I knew it was rough and I don’t want to be in the water either, so it was scary I think for everyone,” Chris Dean, who rescued the woman, said. While rafting on the Sunshine Falls area of the Royal Gorge with Performance Tours, the raft the woman was in hit fast-moving water and she got tossed out. (KDVR) -- Riley, an 8-year-old sheltie, is back home after he walked off his property and went missing for more than five weeks. “He was my wife's dog, so he always sleeps on her pillow. She passed away in January," Mike Krugman, Riley’s owner, said. Krugman said his property is completely fenced in with a 5-foot-tall fence. But on April 8, when Riley went out for his regular roam in the fenced area, they had just had a ton of snowfall. “We got a lot of snow that day, sure enough, I walked to the far south side of our property and we didn't have a fence it was 100% covered in snow," Krugman said.
