October 7 is Ageism Awareness Day for a good reason: Ageism is alive and well; it’s everywhere as a stereotype, prejudice and ultimately as an act of discrimination against older people, all based on age.We see it in the entertainment, tech, and greeting-card industries. It exists in our healthcare systems and within social media, medical research and among families and friends. Ageism is the most widespread and socially accepted form of prejudice, often considered normative. And that’s the problem. Many are unaware they harbor ageist attitudes towards others, themselves or support ageist policies, programs or practices. We have federal legislation to counteract ageism in the workplace. It’s called the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) applicable to companies with 20 or more employees. Members of the public can pay their respects to Sen. Dianne Feinstein — the longest-serving female senator in American history — at San Francisco City Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 4.Doors will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 1 Dr. Carlton B Goodlett Place.The following day, a funeral service for the senator will be held at the San Francisco War Memorial and Performing Arts Center in the Herbst Theater. (WFFF) — A former NFL star was among two people killed after a small plane crashed at an Upstate New York airport over the weekend, according to a report. The crash happened shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday at the end of a runway at the Lake Placid Airport.A spokesperson for the National Transportation Safety Board told Lake Placid News the plane made a "hard roll to the left" after taking off on Sunday, but the investigation remains ongoing. The outlet also reported that the victims have been identified as Richard McSpadden, the senior vice president of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), and Russ Francis, a former NFL tight end. Francis had recently purchased the airport's Lake Placid Airways scenic tour business. Maryland police said two D.C. men shot to death and then ran over a 19-year-old accused of trying to steal money from one of the men.Tyzaiah Gaither, of D.C., was found dead in the 3200 block of Naylor Road in Temple Hills near the D.C. border on June 22.Prince George’s County police have charged Jeffrey Coachman, 49, and Recco Bouknight, 53, with first- and second-degree murder. They are in custody in D.C. pending extradition to Prince George’s County.According to a police news release, Coachman and Bouknight shot Gaither — who police said tried to steal money from Coachman — several times.
