DENVER (KDVR) -- Newly released data from the Denver Medical Examiner's Office reports that 70% of the homeless deaths in Denver this year were caused by drugs and alcohol.It's a 10% increase from last year. Homelessness in Denver up 58% since 2016 Meghan Shay is the executive director of STEP Denver, a local addiction program center. She said their specialty is helping men overcome addiction and reach sobriety in every aspect of their lives from the ground up. “It’s heartbreaking and crushing because you know the potential of these people," she said. "We know they have something to offer this world if they could get their addiction into remission.” It's what organizers do at the organization's 60-bed facility on Larimer Street.“We also have 6 sober living homes in metro Denver, so at any given time we can house up to 90 men. (CNN) — A lion that escaped from a circus in the Italian town of Ladispoli, near Rome, on Saturday has been recaptured after several hours on the loose, the local mayor has announced.Just after 10 p.m. local time (5 p.m. ET) on Saturday, Ladispoli mayor Alessandro Grando announced on his Facebook page that the lion had been caught.The animal had been on the loose for at least 5 hours, causing concern and confusion among local residents.“The lion has been sedated and captured. (CNN) — Southern California drivers may face travel headaches this week after a large storage yard fire over the weekend shut down part of Interstate 10, one of the major traffic routes for downtown Los Angeles, authorities said.A section of I-10, also known as the Santa Monica Freeway, was damaged and remained closed in both directions Sunday near Alameda Street in Los Angeles, a city well known for its traffic congestion issues.Shortly before 12:30 a.m. Saturday, the Los Angeles Fire Department received reports of a fire at a 200-by-200-foot storage yard “with pallets, trailers and vehicles well involved in fire with buildings that were exposed,” Fire Chief Kristin Crowley said at a news conference Sunday.“Wind pushed the heat and the flames under the freeway, and across the street ignited a secondary storage yard,” Crowley said.The span of the blaze covered about 80,000 square feet, according to the fire department.
