ST. LOUIS – David "Davey" Bauer can thank his lucky stars for the surgeons at Chicago’s Northwestern Medicine and a pair of breast implants. When he was 21, Bauer began smoking cigarettes but later turned to vaping because he believed it was a better alternative. In April, Bauer began having shortness of breath and caught the flu, and his health deteriorated rapidly.Bauer's medical team in St. Louis contacted Northwestern Memorial Hospital.“We knew the current condition,” Dr. Rade Tomic, a pulmonologist at Northwestern Medicine Canning Thoracic Institute, said. “In order to get him listed, we have to resolve the infection. The only way to resolve the infection is to take the lungs out.”It was determined Bauer would need a double lung transplant. In May, doctors created an artificial lung to keep him alive. But then, a breakthrough treatment was suggested involving breast implants. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. S...Illinois considers potential spaceport in Quad Cities region

"With a limited number of certificates being issued for spaceports, we want to seize the opportunity while it exists," reads a Quad Cities airport blog. ST. LOUIS -- Big-box drugstores like CVS and Walgreens are closing thousands of stores across the country, including some in the St. Louis area. Some of the stores that are shutting down are in communities of color."What that does is it leaves a pharmacy desert," said Dr. Marcus Howard, Ph.D., founder and owner of GreaterHealth Pharmacy and Wellness, a full retail pharmacy located at 5503 Delmar Boulevard in the Delmar DivINe building.Personal reasons led Howard to open GreaterHealth along Delmar Boulevard in the West End neighborhood. New analysis from NASA shows that major flooding in cities along the West Coast could become a serious problem if a strong El Niño develops this winter, which is widely expected.NASA's sea level change science team analyzed data and determined that an increase in high-tide flooding could swamp roads and spill into low-lying buildings if the periodic climate phenomenon has a prolonged stay in the western U.S.El Niño happens every few years and is characterized by sea levels that are higher than normal and above average temperatures in the Pacific along the equator. This year, a particularly strong El Niño could result in "ten-year flood events" in major cities, including Seattle and San Diego. In South America, Ecuador could see up to three of these same flood events.People stand near a sinkhole caused from storms in San Diego, California on January 7, 2016. Would you eat chicken feed? You'll soon have the chance.Poultry giant Perdue is rolling out a new snack food for humans that it says is "made from most of the same ingredients" in the company’s chicken chow. The snack, dubbed "Chix Mix," contains corn, wheat puffs and edamame, with a bit of spice to make it more people-pleasing.I know, I know: It seems like this is Weird Food Week.First we had pickle-flavored ketchup from Kraft Heinz. Then we had a new ice cream flavor from Baskin-Robbins that it says captures all the taste sensations of Thanksgiving side dishes (including swirls of cranberry sauce). And now Chix Mix."Our feed is so good that humans can eat it too," Perdue says.In fact, the limited-time offering isn't meant to elbow aside Chex Mix and other crunchable snacks. It's aimed at calling attention to the fact that Perdue doesn't use antibiotics in most of its chicken feed.If you're up for a sample, you can order Chix Mix online beginning Nov. 17.Latest news
