ST. LOUIS -- The Opera Theatre of St. Louis is performing a story showing what's possible when people of different backgrounds work together. "The Road to Freedom" celebrates the 61st anniversary of the Freedom Writers. They were seven black and six white Americans who journeyed into the South in May 1961 to protest segregation on public transportation. Their actions inspired others to join the movement, which led to interstate bus desegregation. The performance is at 7:30 tonight and will be held at Third Baptist Church. Tickets are free.Former Melvin Brewing in Eureka holds naming competition

It won’t be raining or storming all the time, but outdoor plans could be impacted each day.Overnight scattered showers may give way to a little break in the rain this morning. We’ll watch for additional scattered showers by lunchtime and some thunderstorms by late afternoon Friday. There is a chance the storms could be strong to severe, with threats of hail and strong wind gusts. Highs today are in the low to mid 80s.A very warm day Saturday, with afternoon storms likely to develop. Highs in the mid- to upper 80s. Mother’s Day Sunday brings a cold front, some wind, and one more chance for storms. That front should be south of us by Monday, giving us a drier and cooler day.Ask Amy: Rekindled romance has everything except passion

He and I dated briefly (for six months) six years ago, and I was totally into him.We stopped seeing each other because he was financially irresponsible. I could not see myself paying for everything with no help from him.Fast-forward to 2022. He reached out to me. He’s still single, I am single, so we decided to try this again, this time with my eyes open and asking questions.I moved to my family home, made renovations, and my financial situation is good because I don’t have a mortgage. He lives in an apartment, but is planning to move closer to me.We are heading into seven months of this reconnect, and I am very happy and content with him, but I am not sexually attracted to him.We hold hands and kiss, but there is no sexual passion. We sleep in the same bed. I feel like he is a very good friend and I want him to be with me forever, but I feel guilty because of the lack of se...Meloni opens talks on constitutional reform, long a mirage in Italy

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Tuesday (9 May) began meetings with opposition parties to discuss her plans to reform the constitution and end chronic political instability in the eurozone's third largest nation.Although Italy has had almost 70 governments since World War Two, more than twice the number in Britain and Germany, repeated attempts to produce a more robust system have always floundered amid myriad, competing visions. There is little optimism that this time will be any different, but Meloni said it was important to try to find broad support for change as she headed into talks with the main parliamentary parties."We consider this to be an important confrontation for our democracy to approve measures that cannot be put off," she said.Italy introduced numerous checks and balances in its 1948 constitution to try to prevent another dictator like Benito Mussolini from grabbing power. But critics say the system has resulted in revolving door coalitions that have weighed ...Suspect in deadly 2022 California church shooting indicted on 98 federal counts, including hate-crime charges

My friend the English professor can’t tolerate poor grammar. He also has no use for poor partners — except when he partners his wife, a dear lady who abides his eccentricities.“She played at four hearts in this deal,” the prof said, showing today’s layout. “West led a spade, and East won and returned a spade. My wife promptly cashed the Q-K of trumps. When East discarded, she took the ace and then started the diamonds. West ruffed the second diamond, and the defense took the jack of spades and ace of clubs. Down one.”“You were upset?” I asked.“No. I commiserated with my wife like a good English professor. I said ‘there, their, they’re’.”BAD BREAKSThere is an easy way South can guard against bad breaks and prevent the defense from getting their four tricks.
