Dallas Mavericks fined $750,000 by NBA for sitting players DALLAS (AP) - The NBA fined the Dallas Mavericks $750,000 on Friday, saying the team engaged in “conduct detrimental to the league” by sitting out most of its key players against the Chicago Bulls on April 7 despite still having a chance to reach the postseason. The league’s investigation, which took less than a week, said Dallas violated the league’s policy on resting players and had a desire to lose that game to the Bulls “in order to improve the chances of keeping its first-round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.”Dallas sat Kyrie Irving for the entire game against the Bulls. Luka Doncic played about one quarter, presumably getting minutes because the Mavericks had scheduled a tribute to Doncic’s home country, Slovenia. The Mavericks blew an 11-point fourth-quarter lead, lost and were eliminated from postseason consideration.“The Dallas Mavericks’ decision to restrict key players from fully participating in an elimination game last Friday against Chicago undermined the integrity of our sp...

Wild will play Dallas Stars in first round of NHL playoffs next week Though he likely checked the NHL app for the occasional update on Friday night, coach Dean Evason made it clear that he had no intention of actually watching the game between the Colorado Avalanche and Nashville PredatorsNever mind that the game determined who the Wild would be playing in the first round of the NHL playoffs.“No,” Evason said with a smile when asked if he was going to tune in. “We watch enough hockey.”Nonetheless, the fact that the Avalanche beat the Predators 4-3 was significant. That means the Wild will play the Dallas Stars in the first round. The series is expected to start on Monday in Dallas.Looking at the regular season, Wild had a 1-2-0 record against the Avalanche and a 2-2-0 record against the Stars. Not that the opponent mattered.
