NORTHGLENN, Colo. (KDVR) — Northglenn’s 50-year-old infrastructure is getting an upgrade thanks to an intensive plan by city officials to address flooding issues. Several residents who live along 112th Avenue say flooding occurs after severe storms. Drivers rescued from flooded Denver roads “There was a good 2 feet of water in all the window wells. It starts to crack the foundation and eat away at the base layers," Randy Hamilton said.Video shows water cascading through backyards and onto the street, flooding a nearby neighborhood intersection.”I had two enormous tree trunks in my backyard," Jeannie Aitola said. Neighbors say public works crews have worked to clear the debris on a regular basis. The city manager met with five residents on Wednesday and walked each property.Northglenn taking steps to handle floodsThe Problem Solvers reached out to the city and learned a storm inlet was added in 2022 on the south side of 112th Avenue, and crews worked to extend piping to an existin...Twitter rate limits could impact communication during severe weather

BOULDER, Colo. (KDVR) — The National Weather Service relies on Twitter to connect with storm chasers to see what they're seeing in the field.Twitter is now limiting the number of tweets you can see and it's already having consequences. Meta takes aim at Twitter with the launch of rival app Threads "It's how we look at road networks, it's how we look at live data from radar," Paige Vincent, a storm chaser based in Colorado, said.Vincent has been chasing storms for the last six years."What we do is use Twitter as a tool to tweet live, what we see," Vincent said, "whether that's a photo or a video or just any information."Information and communication, Vincent said, is vital to keeping governments, meteorologists and people informed when the weather's bad."We try to keep those people, in those areas, up to date with what's going on and also what's coming," Vincent said.Live tweeting storms vital for National Weather ServiceThe advantage of Twitter: The information from the frontlines...Tee Thursday: Views, vibe endure at Scituate CC

First, a disclaimer: I may be a bit biased in this review, because while I’m newer to being a true golfer, Scituate Country Club and I have history.I sat on their porch scarfing down hot dogs and Fanta Oranges when I was a little girl and my mom was playing a couple of practice holes. One year my mother – whose name graces championship plaques there – endured my hack golf when she graciously hosted me as a partner in the mother/daughter. Generations of family members have been champions there. So, yes, my heart beats a little extra for the place. Now, playing it as a true golfer, I know my love is not only well-placed, but enduring.SCC (https://www.scituatecc.com), a private club that opens to the public each Monday and offers a wide variety of private membership options, is a marvel of a nine-holer, going up and down and up and down again on the steep ledge that leads up to Scituate’s Third Cliff. You tee off from lofty heights looking out over bluffs. PHOENIX — If the Mets defy the odds and manage to turn around their season, remember this game as the one that saved it.With the Mets down to their final out and trailing the Arizona Diamondbacks 1-0 at Chase Field, Francisco Alvarez took a full-count sinker from closer Andrew Chafin (2-2) and drove it the other way for a game-tying home run. The rookie catcher was absolutely elated, tossing his bat when he saw the ball go over the head of right fielder Jake McCarthy he tossed his bat and leaped in the air, flexing his biceps to the Mets’ dugout as he rounded first base. The game was tied. Brett Baty continue the rally with a single and Mark Canha tripled off the center field wall to drive in the go-ahead run and give the Mets a 2-1 win. It was their fourth in a row and the Amazins’ are now one win away from matching their longest winning streak of the season. After doing absolutely nothing against left-hander Tommy Henry and two other relievers, the Mets (40-46) fin...Patrick Wilson returns in – and directs – ‘Insidious: The Red Door’

Healey highlights LGBTQ issues

Maura Healey has the LGBTQ agenda on the brain. It’s all the governor talks about, or so it seems.Which is great for that community, of which she has recently become a leader, but not so great for the heterosexual majority of the population. They expect Healey to be governor of all the people, straight and gay.The gay community was thrilled to watch Healey posing for pictures with drag queens in front of the State House prior to the recent Boston Pride parade, which she marched in.The Pride flag was raised on the State House flagpole. It was a first.“We will go forward and lead the country,” she said. “Love is love.”Keep in mind that Healey, the state’s first openly gay governor, was not always so open about her sexuality, but only recently “came out” in a fawning Boston Globe story that ran in January after she had been elected governor. The article was about how happy Healey, 52, was with her new partner Joanna Lydgate 42, the mother of two, who separated from her husband to partner ...Moore: Reality check finds Bidenomics coming up short
Published Fri, 01 Nov 2024 22:40:33 GMT
Word out of the White House is that President Joe Biden wants to tout his economic successes. He’s even embracing the slogan “Bidenomics” — which most people think is a term of derision and policy flops. On the one hand, the unemployment rate is low and millions of jobs have been created over the past two years. Reality check: Virtually all of these jobs are simply the recovery of jobs that already existed in the Trump years but were lost during the COVID lockdowns — mostly in blue statesIf the economy is so strong, why aren’t Americans feeling the love? Tracking polls still show two-thirds of Americans believing the country/economy are headed in “the wrong direction.” Something just doesn’t feel right. Here are some reasons why:First and foremost, it has been the economic reality that for most families, in 22 of the last 25 months, inflation has outpaced wages. So how can the White House claim that worker pay is rising? Here’s the trick...‘Joy Ride’ a raunchy comedy trip worth taking

“Joy Ride” is an Asian-American “Hangover”-style comedy with two small-town best friends named Audrey (Ashley Park, “Emily in Paris”) and Lolo (comedian Sherry Cola) traveling to Beijing with a couple of friends, where they get into some funny and nasty business. “Joy Ride” is not just funny. It’s an exercise in comedy cultural payback and an examination of Asian-American anger. Just check out the flashback in which adopted Audrey and Lolo first meet as children in a Washington state playground where Lolo busts a white, racist bully boy right in the chops. As my colleagues have also reported, the audience at the screening I attended burst into spontaneous applause at the sight of this. For my part, I do not understand why, after the enormous 2018 success of “Crazy Rich Asians” which was co-written by the “Joy Ride”’s first-time director Adele Lim, it hasn’t spawned a dozen knockoffs by now. Lim co-wrote “Joy Ride” with Cherry Chevapravatdumrong (TV’s “Family G...Editorial: Coke discovery points to White House security flaw
