DENVER (KDVR) — Crews in Wheat Ridge responded to a fire at a building under construction on Tuesday morning.According to the West Metro Fire Rescue, firefighters were called to a fire at the West 38 Apartments on 38th Avenue and Upham Street at around 6 a.m. SkyFOX flew over the scene where several firefighters were entering the bottom half of the apartment complex. Heavy smoke was coming from the entrance of the building.FOX31's Samantha Spitz was on the scene and spoke with neighbors who said the fire started in a restaurant that was under construction and connected to the apartments. West Metro Fire said the fire was contained to one unit on the first floor, and that the smoke damage was limited through the rest of the building. DENVER (KDVR) — Properly stored guns are allowed to be checked below an aircraft, but they are completely prohibited from passing through TSA security -- and it's not a cheap price to pay if you're caught.Nationwide, the Transportation Security Administration found 6,542 guns at security checkpoints in 2022, and Denver International Airport was one of the worst offenders. Staff Sergeant Jacob Galliher, of Pittsfield, will be laid to rest this week. Galliher was among the eight crew members killed in a Nov. 29 Osprey helicopter crash off the coast of Japan, which occurred during a training mission. His remains were returned to the United States and to his family last week. (CNN) — The Federal Aviation Administration is taking a new step to address its overworked and chronically understaffed air traffic controller corps, CNN has learned.The agency is expected to announce this week that it is convening a special panel to review the impact and safety risks of on-the-job fatigue facing air traffic controllers, two sources familiar with the announcement said. The FAA declined to comment.The move follows a string of near-collisions this year involving commercial flights on or near the runways of major airports.
