Republican worries are growing that Colorado is slipping further into the hands of Democrats after recent defeats and close calls in the most conservative parts of the state. The latest blow to the GOP in the Centennial State came this week when Republicans lost the mayoral race in Colorado Springs, marking the first time in decades that a member of the party wouldn’t take the helm of the conservative bastion. That followed a surprise near-upset last year when Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) almost lost her reelection bid in one of the midterms’ biggest surprises.Colorado’s changing political landscape, which Republicans believe is due to a culmination of factors, comes as the party looks to hold onto its slim House majority in next year’s elections."Across the board in Colorado, we saw a swing to the left that was wholly unanticipated" in the November midterms, said Sandra Hagen Solin, founder of lobbying firm Capitol Solutions, who has worked in Republican politics."Historically, Colo...Yankees cut ties with struggling outfielder Aaron Hicks with 2.5 years remaining on his contract

The day has come. After three-plus years of struggling in pinstripes, the Yankees have designated outfielder Aaron Hicks for assignment. The 33-year-old had over two years remaining on his seven-year, $70 million contract he signed with the club after the 2019 season. However, the club has seen enough and has parted ways with the struggling outfielder.Hicks is slashing .188/.263/.261 with one homer in 28 games played this season. The switch-hitter was the corresponding move to outfielder Greg Allen being added to the roster after they acquired him from the Boston Red Sox.Now, Hicks will try to follow in the footsteps of Joey Gallo (.892 OPS with the Twins this season) — another outfielder who was showered with boos during his time in the Bronx — in trying to resurrect his career away from the bright lights of Yankee StadiumThis is a developing story. The weather has not been the Mets’ friend this season.Saturday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians has been postponed due to rain and will be made up as part of a split doubleheader Sunday beginning at 1:40 p.m.Just seven days after their most recent rainout that came after a near four-hour delay at Nationals Park in Washington D.C., the Mets shut this game down rather quickly.Tanner Bibee will is scheduled to take the ball for the Guardians in the first game while ace Shane Bieber will toe the slab in the nightcap at 7:40 p.m.The postponement comes a night after the Mets notched arguably their best win of the season after Francisco Lindor lined an RBI single to right field off of Emmanuel Clase to walk it off in the 10th.The Mets have yet to announce who will start Sunday’s games. ()Mike Lupica: Aaron Judge vs. Pete Alonso home run competition shaping up for wild summer
Published Fri, 01 Nov 2024 12:17:29 GMT
We have had a lot of home run summers in New York City, all the way back to when Babe Ruth invented the home run. The city had them for sure in the 50s, when it was Willie, Mickey and The Duke hitting home runs at the Polo Grounds and the old Stadium and Ebbets Field. Everybody knows we had the Summer of ‘61, when Roger Maris hit 61 for the Yankees and beat The Babe, and Mickey Mantle ended up with 54.But what we have never had, not really, is a Yankee and a Met fighting for the title of home run king of baseball. But we’ve got a fight like that shaping up now between Aaron Judge and Pete Alonso, who are carrying their teams right now as much as they ever have, and who just had some week hitting balls over the fence, nine between them starting on Monday and ending on Friday night. Is all.Once again, the Yankees look like a baseball team named Judge with him back off the Injured List. You saw what he did to the Blue Jays in Toronto, before and after he got accused by the ...Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla addresses Al Horford’s playoff shooting struggles
