Miami residents, leaders and business owners are demanding Miami City Commissioner Joe Carollo to step down from his position when he was found liable in a federal civil case and ordered to pay $63 million after he harassed business owners in Little Havana. The community gathered outside of Miami City Hall on Tuesday where community leaders and residents spoke out about the city’s corrupt commissioner.“He should be supporting, helping and representing these businesses,” said community activist, Marvin Tapia. “[Carollo] does the complete opposite of that.” Several business owners were among the crowd as well.“When one of us is victimized, all of us are victimized,” said Daniel Figuerdo. The City of Miami Police Department responded to a Shot Spotter alert around 11 a.m., Tuesday, following reports of a shooting.When officers arrived at the scene, located at 7455 NW 7th Avenue, they discovered an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. Opening statements in the trial of a former Boston attorney accused of rape got underway on Tuesday in Boston.Gary Zerola, 51, once worked as a prosecutor for the state and was once named one of “People” magazine’s top 50 bachelors.Now, he’s facing two counts of rape in connection with an incident in 2016 where prosecutors said he allegedly attacked the friend of a woman he had been dating. In opening statements, a prosecutor told jurors the victim was 23 and had been out drinking with Zerola and other friends before falling asleep in Zerola’s friend’s apartment. When she woke up, the prosecutor said, she found Zerola allegedly assaulting her. Zerola’s attorney, meanwhile, has said the victim was affectionate toward Zerola and called the allegations “false” and “frivolous.” As he heads back into a courtroom, this is not the first time Zerola has been on trial for sexual assault. A person was struck by a tractor-trailer on the eastbound side of Mass Pike in Framingham Tuesday, according to state police. Police and fire crews responded Tuesday morning after officials said a car crashed into a building in Newburyport. A spokesperson said the incident happened in the Port Plaza Shopping Center off Storey Avenue. The spokesperson said the car’s 77-year-old operator was taken to a hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. A person inside the dental office that was hit was struck, the spokesperson said, but was not taken to a hospital. Boston’s mayor and school superintendent are proposing that one of the city’s largest high schools move into the vacant West Roxbury Education Complex, which officials closed four years ago for safety reasons.Under the proposal, the John D.
