DALLAS (AP) — A federal judge has delayed his order that three Southwest Airlines lawyers attend “religious-liberty training” while the airline appeals the sanction to a higher court.U.S. District Judge Brantley Starr on Thursday issued a 30-day stay of penalties against Southwest for, he ruled, mostly disregarding a previous order in a case involving a flight attendant who says she was fired for expressing opposition to abortion.Southwest objected to the contempt sanctions, which include religious-liberty training conducted by a conservative Christian legal-advocacy group, Alliance Defending Freedom. The airline filed an appeal with the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.Some legal experts have criticized Starr for ordering the Southwest lawyers to undergo training by a group that is aligned with a particular facet of one religion. COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (KDVR) -- Police say at least one person has been shot at Santiago's restaurant in Commerce City.The restaurant is located on E 72nd Avenue. Police are asking people to avoid the area.Police say the suspect is "outstanding but likely identified."Video from SkyFOX over the scene shows two firetrucks and about a dozen police vehicles. Police have blocked off at least one lane of Eudora Drive and at least one lane of 72nd Avenue.Also visible from SkyFOX is a white pickup truck that has police tape blocking it off, parked in the drive-thru lane.This is breaking news update. It took 23 years, but a man has finally been convicted for the 1991 murder of Patricia Moreno.The Herald reported that the 17-year-old “Tricia” was seen smoking a cigarette on the fire escape of her Malden foster parent’s apartment early in the morning of July 20, 1991. At around 2:50 a.m., a neighbor said two shots rang out and he looked through a small gap in the blinds of his window and “saw Moreno lying on the fire escape gasping for air.”Police responding to 911 calls for the gunshots would find her face-down on the third-floor fire escape of 21 Henry St. in Malden, still alive but fading. The .38 slug to her head would take her life 12 hours later, at around 3 p.m.On Thursday, a man named Rodney Daniels was convicted by a Middlesex Superior Court jury in Woburn for Moreno’s murder. SAN DIEGO (Border Report) -- Three baby spider monkeys hidden in animal carriers were discovered in a vehicle attempting to cross the border earlier this week at the Calexico West Port of Entry, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.CBP says a 29-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man driving a van were attempting to smuggle the animals into the U.S.During an initial inspection, a CBP officer discovered an animal carrier hidden behind the rear seat that contained live monkeys. The officer sent the occupants and vehicle to secondary inspection for further investigation.CBP officers discovered a total of three live, baby spider monkeys in two separate carriers. WASHINGTON (AP) — A Florida man who used a flagpole to attack officers who were trying to defend the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison.Michael Steven Perkins, 40, of Plant City, was sentenced in District of Columbia federal court, according to court records. His co-defendant, Joshua Christopher Doolin, 25, of Lakeland, received one year and six months on Wednesday. Both were convicted earlier this year of felony civil disorder, entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds and disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds. Doolin was also convicted of theft of government property. Perkins was separately convicted of assaulting a federal officer with a deadly or dangerous weapon and engaging in acts of physical violence while on the restricted Capitol grounds.
