OAK HILL, Florida (WESH) — A principal of a charter school in Volusia County resigned after writing a $100,000 check to an internet scammer posing as Elon Musk.Dr. Jan McGee worked at Burns Science and Technology Charter in Oak Hill since its inception. The school and McGee have always been well thought of. Burns Science and Technology is A-rated with just under 1,000 students and a huge waiting list. The principal who has guided it all these years is a superstar in many circles, but a huge lapse in judgment has cost her her job.“I am a very smart lady. Well-educated. Citizens Insurance looking to raise rates in Florida

Buying or renting in Florida may come at a higher cost. Citizens Property Insurance Corporation announced they are looking to raise rates by 14.2% after Hurricane Ian took a big part of the company’s reserve. The company also announced they are considering a yet-to-be-determined hurricane tax if a big storm hits the state. It is estimated that Citizens Insurance has about 1.2 million customers in Florida. The rate hike requested by the corporation still needs state approval.

(AP) — Nine people were killed in a crash involving two Army Black Hawk helicopters in Kentucky, a military spokesperson said.Nondice Thurman, a spokesperson for Fort Campbell, said Thursday morning that the deaths happened the previous night in southwestern Kentucky during a routine training mission.A statement from Fort Campbell says the two HH-60 Black Hawk helicopters, part of the 101st Airborne Division, crashed around 10 p.m. Wednesday in Trigg County, Kentucky. The 101st Airborne confirmed the crash about 30 mile (48 kilometers) northwest of Fort Campbell. An accomplished Connecticut firefighter has become the first Black female fire chief in New England.Chief Shelly Carter was honored by Gov. Ned Lamont at a pinning ceremony on Wednesday. “Today I stand before you as an example of the many women and men, women of color, who serve without recognition every single day,” Carter said. “Today I honor you.”Carter will lead the Southbury Training School Fire Department.
