Firefighters to host open house in Saratoga Springs

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Local firefighters are hosting a Fire Prevention Open House on Saturday, October 14. The event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Saratoga Springs Fire Department Station 1 at 60 Lake Avenue. Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! During the open house, attendees can learn important fire safety techniques. There will be demonstrations, including vehicle extrication and the many uses of ladder trucks. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Television station WTEN is celebrating a milestone. It was 70 years ago on October 14, 1953, that WTEN went on the air for the first time.But it wasn't called WTEN at the time and it wasn't channel 10. Hudson Valley Broadcasting owned what was then WROW radio and WROW channel 41. It was run out of a former home for retired nuns in North Greenbush. The building was located next to a farm on Glenmore Road. The "nunnery", as it was called burned down in 1966, the same year the station moved to Northern Blvd. in Albany.WROW channel 41 was a UHF station, meaning it broadcasted over a low-frequency signal. RENSSELAER, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Department of Transportation announced an upcoming closure of the off-ramp from the eastbound Dunn Memorial Bridge that leads to Broadway in Rensselaer. FRANKLIN COUNTY – Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to a crash on I-44 at mile marker 257 that turned out to be a fatal wreck on October 12 around 6:45 p.m. The crash led to major backups Thursday night.A semi truck driver was going westbound, partially on the shoulder of I-44, in his 2002 Western Star Conventional that evening.
