Review: Here’s how Dead & Company brought its career to a close in S.F. Dead & Company opened it’s three-night final stand at Oracle Park in San Francisco on Friday (July 14) with “Not Fade Away.”Two days — and some 11 hours of live music — later, the band closed its touring career on Sunday by playing the exact same song, making for the only repeat of the 50-plus tunes performed over the weekend.Guess they wanted to drive home a point, one made abundantly clear by the (slightly altered) lyrics in this cherished cover of the Crickets classic:“You know our love will not fade away.”And it goes both ways, for sure. Dead & Company used the last weekend of its final tour to show to fans how much they’ve meant to the band during its 8-year run — as well as for prior 50 years of support for its parent band, the Palo Alto-born Grateful Dead — while fans showered their musical heroes with love from the first note of Night 1 to the closing bell on Sunday.Truly, this is a relationship that is buil...

Federal judge upholds San Jose gun insurance ordinance (KRON) -- A federal judge dismissed the claims filed in San Jose by a gun rights group who hoped to challenge the constitutionality of an ordinance introduced in 2022. The ordinance requires gun owners to carry liability insurance to cover any accidental shootings that involve their firearms. WATCH: Food delivery driver carjacking caught on camera in SoMa The National Association for Gun Rights, a gun rights group, claimed that the ordinance violates their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. The 23-page decision issued by U.S. District Court Judge Beth Labson Freeman dismissed many of the gun rights group's challenges. The judge did allow the challengers to re-file their complaint regarding a different part of the ordinance, which requires that gun owners pay a $25 annual fee to the city to support a fund that aims to prevent gun-related injuries. The judge said the challenge to the fee was not "ripe" for decision as the City has not implemented the fee yet. Former Mayo...

Diversify or die: San Francisco's downtown is a wake-up call for other cities SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Jack Mogannam, manager of Sam's Cable Car Lounge in downtown San Francisco, relishes the days when his bar stayed open past midnight every night, welcoming crowds that jostled on the streets, bar hopped, window browsed or just took in the night air. He's had to drastically curtail those hours because of diminished foot traffic, and business is down 30%. A sign outside the lounge pleads: "We need your support!""I'd stand outside my bar at 10 p.m. and look, it would be like a party on the street," Mogannam said. "Now you see, like, six people on the street up and down the block. It's a ghost town."After a three-year exile, the pandemic now fading from view, the expected crowds and electric ambience of downtown have not returned.A banner asking for support hangs outside the Sam's Cable Car Lounge near Union Square in San Francisco, on June 21, 2023. Base F-150 Lightning electric pickup will cost less than $50,000 as Ford slashes prices across line The sticker prices for Ford’s F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks are being lowered by thousands of dollars across the board, the company said Monday, due to increased plant capacity, falling costs for battery raw materials and internal efforts to scale production by the Detroit automaker. The price cuts across the Lightning line, some as deep as $10,000, appeared to be seen on Wall Street as more evidence of a coming price war among electrical vehicle makers, however, sending shares of Ford Motor Co. down 5% Monday. The lower prices were announced two days after Tesla said its first production Cybertruck electric pickup had rolled off the assembly line, though nearly two years behind the original schedule and with little information about how much they may cost. Rivian, another electric pickup maker, recently announced that its second quarter deliveries nearly tripled and its shares have been on a tear, rising more than 41% this month.“Ford hears footsteps of Cybertruck and...
